More Ripples

My heart is broken by the pictures of animals covered in oil...I'd much rather see this.

    I agree.

Did you hear the story about the 11-year old girl who raised thousands of dollars in donations to the National Audubon Society with her bird drawings?

She was so heart broken over the animals affected by the oil spill that she wanted to figure out a way to help. So she started drawing birds endangered by the Gulf Oil Spill and started a Facebook page called "Save the Gulf: Olivia's Bird Illustrations".

I just loved this story. So inspiring. If you'd like to read more about this, check out this article at:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/blog/2010/may/26/us-schoolgirl-bp-bird-drawings

If you want to be proactive and help out the cause, maybe you could do something similar?

I guess all this started in May but I only heard about yesterday and now I'm considering doing the same. I stopped drawing (regrettably) during college (for Computer Science) and so I'm quite rusty. But this is a good challenge to motivate me to pick it back up. Even if I only sold one drawing and saved only one bird, then I'd feel at least a tiny bit better knowing I made something of a difference.

By the way, I found your blog through AIB. I used to take classes there. They have a great program, don't they? Anyways, I checked out your art and I think you do fantastic work. Congratulations on your budding career. You are so lucky to be working at a place like FableVision. They put out some great stuff. I was especially impressed with ZebraFish because I used to be a Children's Hospital patient growing up. Those were difficult times for me but the hospital did a great job of making it less awful. I'm so grateful for all that they have done for me.

    :)

  4. Thank you so much :)

and, Simone- wow! That article made me tear up a little. How amazing is Olivia?

About making art again...it is therapeutic no matter if you're doing it for work or play. I highly recommend you to start dabbling again. I have a friend who just started a blog so she could contribute to Ripple...and she's making some awesome work. It's so heartwarming how much the illustration community cares about this.

What classes did you take at AIB? Which professors? I had a really hard time in college, I didn't find my "style" until years after I graduated. Because of this, it's extra meaningful to me that you like my work...thank you thank you thank you :)
